Gregarious non-breeding Atlantic Puffins (Fratercula arctica) 'hang out' during nesting season on grassy slopes and rock ledges near the many scattered burrows of the colony's breeding pairs, here along the coast of eastern Newfoundland, summer, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Puffins communicate much more with gestures than vocalizations. We could speculate here that one puffin is bowing to acknowledge the already established higher status of the other... or simply just saying 'hello'.
