North American Beaver (Castor canadensis) transporting branches (for winter food) back to lodge area. British Columbia, Canada. Fall. In late summer/fall beavers cut down many bushes and trees and haul them back to their lodge area to store for winter food--once the pond freezes. This beaver colony had at least four dams on this small stream. The ponds behind the dams make it easier for the beaver to haul branches/trees (food) back to their lodge area.
