Male Western Bluebird (Sialia mexicana). The wildflowers are called Grass Widows and are one of the earliest wildflowers found in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. One often finds hardy individuals in early February, but the peak bloom for these flowers usually occurs in early March, which coincides with the return of these beautiful birds to this area.
