Western Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio rutulus) on Hydrangea blossoms in backyard.  Pacific Northwest.  Summer.  The many "hairs" seen on the butterfly are called tactile setae,  These hairs function as sensory structures, providing the animal with information about touch, smell and sound.
